10 Signs Your Gutters May Need to be Replaced
Gutters are a very important part of your home. You don’t want to think about replacing them, but sometimes it becomes necessary to do so. Below are 10 signs that you might need to replace your gutters:
1. A lot of Holes, Rust Spots, or Cracks
Sometimes you can fix these problems using a little bit of flashing and some sealant. But if you are seeing six or more spots where you can see one or more of these problems, it’s probably time to replace your gutters.
2. A Few Broken Fasteners
Fasteners are the metal pieces that are holding the gutter to the roof and helping it stay level. If you’re able to repair the fasteners, go ahead and do it. But if you’re always having trouble with the fasteners breaking, you may find that it’s better to replace your gutters instead.
3. Finding Screws or Nails
There are times when those screws or nails that were used for fastening gutters onto your wolf sometimes come loose. It’s not hard to replace them, but if they’re always coming loose it might mean that your gutters are wearing.
4. Gutters Becoming Separated
Your gutter is only going to work well if it’s continuously fastened together. If they start to separate frequently from the other pieces, you may want to replace your gutters.
5. Gutter Starts Coming Away from Your Roof
You’re able to hammer your fasteners in as many times as you want. But if there are always spaces appearing in between the gutter and the roofline, your fascia boards could be rotting. Replacing your gutters is going to fix your fascia problems.
6. Improperly Pitched or Sagging Gutters
If you’re not maintaining the right pitch where your gutter system is, the water is going to pool in certain areas and maybe spill over. Think about getting new gutters if you can’t fix the problem.
7. Exterior paint is peeling
When your gutter is pulling away from the roof of your home, sometimes water will seep over its rear edge so that it goes onto your trim or siding. When you see paint peeling, it means that is a problem that has been happening frequently for a long time and the gutters should be replaced.
8. Pooling Water or Dirt Channels
After it rains, there could be evidence that water is spilling over the gutters. Try correcting this problem, but think about replacing your gutters if you don’t notice the water going away.
9. Eroded Landscaping
You want your landscape to look good. If you’ve found that you’re always investing money and time to repair the water damage because your gutters are malfunctioning, you’ll likely save money in the long run by just replacing your gutters.
10. Flooded basements
When water is constantly pouring out you’re your foundation, it can go into your basement. This can create some very costly damage. Fix your basement and then make sure your gutters are replaced as well.
Even though it may seem costly to replace your gutters, the truth is that it can be costly to put it off too. Having gutters that work well can help your foundation, your landscaping, and a lot more. So make sure they’re working well and that you replace them when they need to be replaced.
